First Aid is the help provided to a person with physical injuries before professional treatment is received. Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional treatment is received or the crisis resolves.
In the corporate setting, a workplace that promotes and supports good mental health will be high performing through a good team morale and individual productivity. The principles of Mental Health First Aid can be applied to create a culture of understanding and positive interactions between employees on a day-to-day basis, and will assist in reducing the stigma for staff members who may be experiencing mental health difficulties.
In a general setting, it is also critical for people who work directly with customers and members of the public as part of their roles to have strategies to support people who are experiencing a mental health issue or crisis.
