Situation Snapshot

Georgia* is a single parent, who was referred to Accoras ParentsNext in September 2021. At the time of her initial appointment in October, she was 33 years old, with 3 children – 7, 4 and 10 months. She had completed Year 10 along with a Certificate III in Hospitality. During the initial appointment, she discussed the needs of her children, specifically her youngest, with concern for his development.

Goals & Challenges

Georgia had a passion for the Real estate industry, and it was her goal to gain her Real Estate Licence, but she wasn’t able to afford a laptop, or the course required to get her licence.

Additionally, her personal challenge was that she was in the process of being diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder. However she was comfortable in managing her son’s diagnostic journey.

What Accoras did

Georgia was happy to participate in the Accoras ParentsNext program, as she knew the benefit and support it would provide, so the Case Coordinator was able to start working closely with her very quickly. They gave her guidance to overcome barriers including legal support referrals, and technology support. Georgia’s Case Coordinator worked with her to enrol in the REIQ (RTO) Real Estate Licence course online, and supplied her with a laptop, funding both through the Participation Funds. Additionally, the fund assisted with:

  • Parents Real Estate Licence and criminal history police check
  • Drivers Licence Renewal
  • Vehicle Registration
  • Petrol
  • Interview clothing

The outcome

Because of the actions from Accoras ParentsNext, Georgia successfully completed her Real Estate Licence Course in October 2023, far earlier than if she ever thought possible. She immediately gained full time employment with a reputable, well known Real Estate firm.

What she says

Georgia says that she wouldn’t be employed in the industry without the support of Accoras and the ParentsNext program. She wouldn’t have been able to afford the course or the additional items needed to actually gain full time employment, her long time goal.

The Future

Georgia is now fully self sufficient. She is no longer reliant on the Government for Parenting Payments, and has successfully moved on to the next phase in her life.
