Situation Snapshot

When Stevie* approached Accoras ParentsNext, she wasn’t really able to work out how to get a job as a single mother of two.

Goals & Challenges

With a criminal history, she had spent time in prison, and her only previous work experience had been in the adult entertainment industry.

But now, she had 2 daughters to look after.

Stevie came to ParentsNext knowing she wanted change, but wasn’t sure how to make it happen the way she wanted.

What Accoras did

Due to her criminal history, finding employment had been difficult. After a discussion with the Accoras Case Coordinator, she identified that she had a dream of working in the beauty industry in a self-employed capacity, so wanted to get a suitable qualification.

Our ParentsNext Case Coordinator spent some time getting to know Stevie, and building rapport with her. They explained that they would support her with her search for study options as a way to break down the employment barriers she had previously faced alone.

Together, they enrolled Stevie into a Certificate III in Nail Technology, and used the Participation Fund for the equipment she needed, including a Nail Kit.

The outcome

With support from our Case Coordinator, Stevie has experienced a huge sense of relief in knowing she is breaking down the employment barriers. She’s working towards her Cert III towards a different future for herself and her daughters.

What she says

Stevie told our Case Coordinator that she is so grateful for the opportunity to change her future.

The Future

It’s these things that change lives.
