Situation Snapshot
Casey, just 9 years old, was struggling with anxiety induced tics, and unable to comfortably interact socially at school. She relied on daily check ins with the School Guidance Officer for support, so she could get through each day.
Goals & Challenges
Casey really needed to be able to identify when she was becoming anxious, so she could implement coping strategies and challenge her existing negative thinking.
Plus she wanted to make new friends, and be better friends with the ones she had, by becoming more independent and not as reliant on family or the Guidance Officer.
What Accoras did
Our Accoras You.nique Case Coordinator co-designed a program with the family to build up Casey’s mental resilience, and self-awareness.
She underwent a Psychoeducation program which helped her understand her emotions, which ones were which, and how to manage them.
She discovered how to identify the thinking patterns and negative thoughts that sent her towards anxiety, and strengthened up her social skills.
The coordinator took a client-centred approach, uniquely designed to support Casey’s specific challenges, one by one, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for identifying thought patterns, and shifting that thinking.
They saw Casey every single week for 5 months while she was at school, and provided the family with support when they became anxious about her.
The outcome
The result is that Casey is now engaged in her schooling, and no longer experiencing anxiety tics. Her sleep has improved, and she has developed a level of independence which allows to make new friends, and be more confident socially.
What she says
Casey’s family have expressed sincere gratitude to the Accoras You.nique Case coordinator, saying that the improvement they are seeing in this 9 year old girl has changed her life.
