Situation Snapshot
After not attending school for over a year, Robbie outlook of the future was bleak.
Goals & Challenges
He had attempted suicide, and regularly though about it. He was struggling to manage anger and conflict, especially with his mum, leading to a tense, strained home environment.
What Accoras did
The Accoras CPSP Case Coordinator introduced Robbie to some manageable and effective strategies for dealing with intense emotions, which helped him cope with his feeling more constructively.
They connected him and his mum with family support services, to provide guidance around improving communication and conflict resolution at home.
They also recognised that he needed a specifically supported learning environment, so arranged for Robbie to enrol in an alternative school far more appropriate to his needs.
The outcome
Following sessions with Accoras CPSP, Robbie now sees that there actually is a future for him. He’s feeling optimism, hopefulness, a positive life ahead.
He doesn’t think about suicide anymore.
The arguments with his mum have notably decreased, so the home environment is now feeling harmonious and safe.
The anger meltdowns have considerably reduced.
Because he is immersed in a learning environment that works for him, he is re-engaging with his education.
What she says
He is currently undergoing a comprehensive Psychology Assessment, and this has already identified a significant learning disorder, which requires additional school support. This independent assessment would not have been within financial reach for this family.
